Privacy Policy

Last updated: 21 June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Fluent handles information when you use Fluent language-learning apps, including Fluent: German, Fluent: English, future Fluent language apps, and the website at thefluent.app. This policy is intended to apply to both iOS and Android versions of Fluent.

1. Who Is Responsible

The responsible publisher or controller is the Fluent app publisher identified in the relevant App Store or Google Play listing and the operator of thefluent.app. You can contact us at support@thefluent.app.

2. Summary

Fluent is designed as a focused language-learning app. The current app can store learning progress, preferences, bookmarks, known words, weak words, quiz history, and settings on your device. We do not sell your personal information. We only process information for app operation, purchases, support, security, analytics, legal compliance, and improvement of Fluent.

3. Information You Provide

We may process information you choose to provide, such as:

  • your email address and message content when you contact support;
  • feedback, bug reports, feature requests, or survey responses;
  • purchase or subscription support details you share with us; and
  • custom learning content if a future version lets you add your own words, notes, lists, or recordings.

4. App Data Stored on Your Device

Fluent may store app data locally on your device, including selected language, translation language, theme, accent color, haptic and audio settings, premium status, cards reviewed, bookmarks, known words, weak words, quiz results, activity history, streaks, filters, and similar learning preferences. This data helps the app remember your progress and personalize your learning experience.

5. Purchases and Subscriptions

If Fluent offers paid features, purchases may be processed by Apple, Google, or another payment provider. We may receive limited purchase information needed to unlock features, verify subscription status, prevent fraud, provide support, and comply with legal obligations. Payment card details are handled by the relevant store or payment provider, not directly by Fluent.

6. Device, Usage, Analytics, and Diagnostics

Depending on the app version and platform, Fluent may process limited technical information such as app version, device type, operating system, language settings, region, crash reports, diagnostics, performance information, feature usage events, and approximate interaction data. We use this information to keep the app reliable, understand which features are useful, fix bugs, improve learning flows, and protect the service.

7. Website Data

When you visit thefluent.app, hosting and security systems may process standard technical information such as IP address, browser type, device type, requested pages, timestamps, referrer, and error logs. The website also stores your theme preference in your browser's local storage so the site can remember light or dark mode.

8. Audio and Speech

Fluent may include pronunciation audio and sentence audio features. If audio is played from files bundled with the app, playback can happen on your device. If a future version adds speech recognition, pronunciation scoring, voice recording, cloud speech processing, or user-uploaded audio, we will process that audio only as needed for the feature and will update disclosures where required.

9. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • provide and maintain Fluent apps and the website;
  • save progress, settings, and learning preferences;
  • provide quizzes, review flows, audio, statistics, and language features;
  • process purchases, subscriptions, refunds, and entitlement checks;
  • respond to support requests and communicate about Fluent;
  • debug, secure, analyze, and improve the apps and website;
  • prevent fraud, abuse, security incidents, and misuse; and
  • comply with legal, tax, accounting, and app-store requirements.

10. Legal Bases

Where privacy laws such as the GDPR apply, we rely on one or more legal bases: performance of a contract, legitimate interests, consent, compliance with legal obligations, and protection of vital or legal interests where applicable. You can withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, without affecting earlier lawful processing.

11. Sharing Information

We may share information with service providers and platform partners that help operate Fluent, such as app stores, payment processors, hosting providers, analytics providers, crash-reporting providers, customer support tools, email providers, security providers, and professional advisers. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a business transfer such as a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.

12. International Transfers

Fluent, our providers, and app-store platforms may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as contractual protections or other mechanisms recognized by applicable law.

13. Data Retention

We keep information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required by law. Device-stored learning data may remain on your device until you delete it, reset app data, or uninstall the app. Support messages may be retained as needed to resolve issues, maintain records, and comply with legal obligations.

14. Your Choices

You can manage many choices in the app or your device settings, including app permissions, notifications, theme, haptics, sentence audio, language settings, and subscription cancellation. You can delete local app data by using available reset options or uninstalling the app, though uninstalling may permanently remove local progress that is not backed up.

15. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent, or review of certain automated processing. You may also have the right to complain to a data protection authority. To make a request, contact support@thefluent.app.

16. Children's Privacy

Fluent is not directed to children under 13, or the minimum age required in your country to use digital services without parental consent. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without required consent. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.

17. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

18. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Fluent changes, including when we add new language apps, platforms, subscriptions, analytics, sync, account, speech, or support features. The updated policy will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.

19. Contact

For privacy questions or requests, contact support@thefluent.app.
